1. What did you do in 2008 that you’d never done before?
I rode on an airboat.
2. Did you keep your new year’s resolutions, and will you make more for next year?
I did manage to keep some of my resolutions. Actually I kept all of them except for the exercise related ones. Typical.
3. Did anyone close to you give birth?
My sister had her baby in May. I am shocked at how smitten I am with my new niece. I miss her so much, and hate that she lives so far away.
4. Did anyone close to you die?
Fortunately, no. My Opa tried pretty hard, but managed to confound the doctors by leaving the hospice on his own two feet.
5. What countries did you visit?
Once again all my travel was to Canada and within the US.
6. What would you like to have in 2009 that you lacked in 2008?
I’m still looking for that elusive belt.
7. What dates from 2008 will remain etched upon your memory, and why?
March 14th, when I abruptly quit my job.
May 26th when my niece was born.
September 1st hanging around for Hurricane Gustav with a houseful of company.
September 15th when the markets went kablooie.
8. What was your biggest achievement of the year?
Quitting my job, and starting to work as an independent contractor was pretty memorable.
9. What was your biggest failure?
Letting the stuff in my head get in the way of my marriage.
10. Did you suffer illness or injury?
Hmmm, no not really at all. I guess working from home kept me out of the germ pools.
11. What was the best thing you bought?
A membership to Elance.com.
12. Whose behavior merited celebration?
I continue to be in awe of Barrak Obama’s ability to make sane, considered decisions.
13. Whose behavior made you appalled and depressed?
Sarah Palin’s.
14. Where did most of your money go?
Debt reduction.
15. What did you get really, really, really excited about?
My beautiful little niece.
16. What song will always remind you of 2008?
American Boy.
17. Compared to this time last year, are you:
a) happier or sadder? Maybe just a little sadder.
b) thinner or fatter? Fatter.
c) richer or poorer? Individually I’m probably a little poorer, but overall we’re richer.
18. What do you wish you’d done more of?
Having fun.
19. What do you wish you’d done less of?
Being so uptight.
20. How did you spend Christmas?
Chrismtas day was a blur of good-bye hugs, airport updates, and a big family dinner at my Mom’s house.
21. Did you fall in love in 2008?
No, but I didn’t fall out of love either, I’m happy to say.

Mad Men
23. Do you hate anyone now that you didn’t hate this time last year?
Hate is always a pointless emotion.

Unaccustomed Earth
25. What was your greatest musical discovery?
MSTRCRFT.
26. What did you want and get?
Out of my brain-melting job.

The promised move back to Canada.
28. What was your favorite film of this year?
Nothing at all comes to mind.
29. What did you do on your birthday, and how old were you?
I turned 32 and travelled to Victoria to spend time with my niece and her parents.
30. What one thing would have made your year immeasurably more satisfying?
Moving out of Mississippi.
31. How would you describe your personal fashion concept in 2008?
Red toe nail polish, and long wavy hair.
32. What kept you sane?
Getting out of the house sometimes, and traveling home frequently. Having useful and challenging work to do.
33. Which celebrity/public figure did you fancy the most?
Christina Hendricks.
34. What political issue stirred you the most?
The elections in general in both the U.S. and Canada.
35. Who did you miss?
My family.
36. Who was the best new person you met?
She’s just an acquaintance, but she’s inspired me professionally, and she’s been the main reason I haven’t gone totally stir crazy working from home.
37. Tell us a valuable life lesson you learned in 2008.
Right now, right this moment, you are fine. So stop worrying about everything else.
