A Decade? Really?!

When people talk about the 50′s or the 80′s an image usually jumps to mind of what that means. Like poodle skirts or shoulder pads. But what a decade really is is ten years of a person’s life. Ten years.

I would say that 2000-2009 marked my first full decade as an adult. I graduated from college. I got jobs and paid rent. I traveled. And I got married. Oh, and I lived in the wake of a massive natural disaster.

A decade can be so quickly encapsulated in a sterotype and then sort of dismissed. But the last ten years have been wild. I could never have imagined that I would be where I am, or have done what I’ve done.

The only constant for me throughout this decade has be the Internet. Most of my decade has been documented online. I have people I talk to all the time, but who’s face I’ve never seen (I’m hoping to remedy some of that this year). It’s where I turn for companionship, entertainment, information, and for the last seven years, for work. My life is online.

I think the last ten years would have been much more difficult were it not for the Internet. Thank you, Al Gore for giving me a place that is everywhere so that I could be anywhere.
