1. What did you do in 2009 that you’d never done before?
I visited San Francisco. I drank a mint julep on the veranda of a plantation.
2. Did you keep your new year’s resolutions, and will you make more for next year?
I didn’t actually make any resolutions last year. I was actually kind of weirdly goal-less last year.
3. Did anyone close to you give birth?
Baby free this year, but next year is going to be a doozy.
4. Did anyone close to you die?
My grandfather passed away in April. He reassured us repeatedly that “It was simple. Dying is simple. And it’s so beautiful.” It was a lovely gift he gave us.

April 24th when we sold our house.
8. What was your biggest achievement of the year?
Standing firm in real estate negotiations. Realizing that it wasn’t impossible for me to dictate the where’s and when’s of my life. Getting better at keeping my emotions in check, while still being assertive.

Letting the days go by without pushing myself enough.
10. Did you suffer illness or injury?

Although I didn’t really buy it (AB got them for us), I’m desperately in love with my Droid phone.
12. Whose behavior merited celebration?
My sister amazed me. She finished her Ph.D, moved to Sweden with her one year old, and is doing research in a narrow and very important field.
Also our friend who let us move in with him when we were unable to make up our minds about what we were doing with ourselves. And who’s let us live with him for the last 10 months.

Everyone involved in the whole moving & funeral in a single week.

Always my family.
36. Who was the best new person you met?
I’m sure I met some fabulous new people this year, but I think I was most thrilled to get back in touch with my friends from Regina. With Chris coming to visit this summer, and catching up with my Homer in Vegas, and another Regina college friend in Calgary, I was reminded of all the great people I know and love back in the Great White North.
37. Tell us a valuable life lesson you learned in 2009.
If you don’t push yourself, no one is going to do it for you.
One Year Ago Today: Right now, right this moment, you are fine.
