The best place. A coffee shop? A pub? A retreat center? A cubicle? A nook?
I think I really embraced the idea of coffee shop working this year. I took advantage of the portability of my work, and now have favourite coffee shops in a couple of different towns. The one on the North Shore is cheap, and you can sit for hours, and there are regulars who all know each other – it’s a real community spot. In Alabama they have excellent little corners to set up camp in, and the baked goods are killer. In Baton Rouge the shop is always full of students working on projects and tapping away at their respective laptops.
I like working in these cafes. It is awesome to have somewhere to work outside of the house, and to be out among people. I’m always ridiculously productive without the distractions of the house.
And yet I still don’t get out to these places as often as I’d like. I have some guilt about going out. I don’t even know where it came from, but I need to get over it. Going out makes me happy, keeps me sane, and I get so much done. Why wouldn’t I use these happy places to do what I have to do?
